Home owners dig deep for farmers
21 September 2018 | by Halcyon
Hundreds of Halcyon home owners have pitched in to raise almost $20,000 for Australia’s drought-affected farmers. Moved by the plight of those on the land, home owners from our Gold Coast, Caboolture north and Sunshine Coast communities have opened their hearts and wallets to give generously.
Halcyon’s fundraising efforts were initiated and driven by home owners at Halcyon Landing, Halcyon Lakeside, Halcyon Glades, Halcyon Greens, Vision by Halcyon and Halcyon Waters through events such as concerts, dinners and simply ‘passing the hat around’. Money raised will be distributed to the Queensland Drought Appeal, Buy a Bale of Hay, Aussie Helpers and ...

Community Manager Donna talks about adapting to community living
17 August 2018 | by Halcyon
“Community living has a special feel to it. You have many opportunities to keep active and to try something new – perhaps join a pottery class, learn a new skill or get fitter.
The great part about my role as a community manager is seeing how much fun our home owners are having and seeing new friendships forming. Many have spent most of their lives working hard and now have the time to relax, go on holidays with new friends, and have the life they’ve dreamed of. Halcyon certainly delivers that and more.
I can’t wait to live ...

17 August 2018 | by Halcyon
The past year has certainly been a challenging one for Halcyon Landing home owner Jeanette Savage and her husband Ian, but it has also highlighted the strong community spirit that surrounds them.
Jeanette was diagnosed with cancer in May last year and has been undergoing chemo treatment since then.
She had a further setback in October when she developed a brain bleed that required her to have surgery. Thankfully, this has been resolved.
Still receiving treatment for cancer, but on the road to recovery, Jeanette said she has been overwhelmed by the concern and help offered by friends, neighbours and staff at Halcyon ...

Feds dangle $300,000 downsizing carrot for over 65s
17 August 2018 | by Halcyon
From 1 July 2018, people aged 65 and over have 300,000 more reasons to downsize their home under a new incentive introduced by the Federal Government. The move gives seniors more flexibility to put up to $300,000 from the sale of their home into superannuation.
National Manager of Wealth Management at Morgans Financial Limited, Terri Bradford, answers key questions about the new super sweetener.
Why did the Federal Government introduce this incentive?
It’s part of a wider strategy to address Australia’s housing affordability crisis, and it aims to free up larger homes for younger, growing families.
Until now, being unable to put the ...

Downsize without feeling fenced in
17 August 2018 | by Halcyon
AFTER spending more than 25 years living on acreage, Beerwah residents Fayonne and Bernie Partridge found the ideal downsizing solution at Halcyon Glades over 50’s community in Caboolture North.
They bought one of 10 newly released properties at Halcyon Glades, each offering an extended backyard along with upsized front and rear patios.
It was the perfect compromise between acreage and typical retirement living options.
“Being able to have a bit of grass and to see the trees in the distance really suited us coming off an acreage property where we had a lot of trees and shrubs around us,” Mr Partridge said.
“Now the ...

On The Road Again...
17 August 2018 | by Halcyon
Each Sunday morning, a group of Halcyon Waters’ cyclists known as The Easy Riders, takes off for a leisurely ride. From time to time, they go farther afield; loading up their custom-made bike trailer and heading off to explore a picturesque corner of regional Queensland. Recently, 10 riders and two back-up crew took on ‘peanut country’ - the 43.5km South Burnett Rail Trail from Murgon to Kingaroy and 20 km on Brisbane Valley Rail Trail from Coominya to Fernvale.
Easy Rider Graham Bezant (Beezer) penned this account of the trip and its memorable moments that made it ...

Cutting is a sweet spot for Landing's 'Farmers'
17 August 2018 | by Halcyon
Home owners at Halcyon Landing are tapping into Bli Bli’s agricultural roots with their rural revival of land adjoining an old Bli Bli cane train cutting.
The cutting, which traverses Peppercorn Hill, was originally excavated in 1941 and was later deepened to 10m to allow locomotives to carry greater loads of cane over the hill.
These days the area sits behind Landing’s community workshed, and the road leading up to the shed is aptly named Peppercorn Lane.
The area caught the attention of some of Landing’s more rural-inclined home owners who have begun transforming almost 2000sqm of unused land just south of the ...

It’s time to Getaway again…
17 August 2018 | by Halcyon
Chances are, that as you read this, the Halcyon Waters Getaway Group is on the road yet again.
Either that or they’ve just returned from another action-packed trip and they’re planning the next one.
Every three months or so, this ever-expanding group of regional road trippers hits the bitumen for a week of fun, frivolity and friendship.
Like most success stories, it didn’t happen overnight; starting eight years ago when a few neighbouring home owners with caravans decided to take off for a few days.
Gradually, the word about these jaunts got around and more and more people began to tag along.
These days, close ...
