Life begins at Halcyon

Life begins at 50

71 and going strong

08 June 2018 | by Halcyon

Life at Halcyon Glades makes it easy for confessed ‘gym junkie’ Terry Tysoe to satisfy his appetite for action.

At 71, the former boxer, body builder and competition powerlifter, hits the community’s gym three times a week and plays competitive lawn bowls and golf with fellow home owners.

Such is his fitness level that Terry can drop and pump out 50 push-ups and is able to shoulder press the maximum weight on the gym’s station machine.

Happily, he has no arthritis, joint issues or blood pressure problems holding him back.

“There’s nothing that really inhibits me,” he said.

“I’m not on any medication, and not ...

Games shape golden memories for team Halcyon

02 May 2018 | by Halcyon

The athletes and the crowds have left but the incredible memories are here to stay for the 30 Halcyon home owners who volunteered at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Known as Games Shapers, they were among the 15,000 volunteers who became the friendly and helpful face of the 11-day event.

Third-time Commonwealth Games volunteer Doreen Morrison, of Halcyon Parks, loved that her role as a driver involved so much interaction with athletes.

Doreen drove athletes from Scotland, Wales and tiny island nation of St Helena as they trained and acclimatised on the Sunshine Coast in the weeks before the Games.

“It was absolutely ...

A passion for pedal power unites Halcyon’s ‘Easy Riders’

27 April 2018 | by Halcyon

They say life is like riding a bicycle: to stay balanced you must keep moving, and it couldn’t be truer for a group of cyclists at Halcyon Waters.

Known as the ‘Easy Riders’, these intrepid cyclists meet every Sunday and head off on all kinds of adventures.

The group has been cycling for six years and is run by four riders who plan and ride all trips in advance to ensure they are suitable for the whole group. They even have their own purpose-built trailer, which has added another dimension to their cycling adventures.

Their past journeys include leisurely Sunday morning breakfast rides, ...

27 April 2018 | by Halcyon

After decades of travelling thousands of kilometres to and from work, retired FIFO chef Ian Morrison is happy to stay put at Halcyon Greens.

Since moving to Greens with wife Leah in November, Ian’s Halcyon Days are filled with fun, friendship and new experiences.

It’s a welcome change of pace for Ian who was a chef at huge mining construction camps in remote areas of Australia for about 30 years.

“It’s been excellent,” Ian said of the first few months at Halcyon Greens.

“I love it, I think it’s the best thing we’ve ever done because of the community and the people here.

“It’s good ...

Tommy’s on a roll at Halcyon Glades

27 April 2018 | by Halcyon

Life has never been so busy for Halcyon Glades home owner Tommy St John.

The former roof tiler has found a new lease of life at the Caboolture North community since he and wife Elaine moved in 18 months ago.

If he’s not competing on the bowls green, Tommy’s planning his next crop in the community garden or delivering bread and veggies to neighbours.

“You can get stagnant in suburbia, but there’s so much happening here,” Tommy said.

“It keeps you active all the time which is good for your mind and your body.

“There’s not a day that we don’t get involved with something ...

‘Cutting’ is a sweet spot for Landing’s ‘Farmers’

27 April 2018 | by Halcyon

Home owners at Halcyon Landing are tapping into Bli Bli’s agricultural roots with their rural revival of land adjoining an old Bli Bli cane train cutting.

The cutting, which traverses Peppercorn Hill, was originally excavated in 1941 and was later deepened to 10m to allow locomotives to carry greater loads of cane over the hill.

These days the area sits behind Landing’s community workshed, and the road leading up to the shed is aptly named Peppercorn Lane.

The area caught the attention of some of Landing’s more rural-inclined home owners who have begun transforming almost 2000sqm of unused land just south of the ...

Inter-Community rivalry IS ON A ROLL

27 April 2018 | by Halcyon

Things are heating up on Halcyon’s bowling greens with the start of an inter-community tournament involving bowlers from Hope Island to Bli Bli. The epicentre of this bowls rivalry is Halcyon Glades, where a group of keen bowlers has organised to play each community in the Halcyon family over the next few months.

Launched in early March, the home-and-away series has already seen Glades play host to Halcyon Parks, Halcyon Greens (whose team includes some Vision bowlers) and Halcyon Waters respectively over three consecutive Sundays.

The Glades team is travelling to Lakeside, Landing and Parks for competition on Sundays during April and ...

Pimpama: From farmland to boom town

27 April 2018 | by Halcyon

A vibrant, connected and service-rich location is the backdrop for every Halcyon community, and the site of our latest project, Halcyon Greens at Pimpama, epitomises this philosophy.

While this spectacular 500-home community is surrounded by lush golf course fairways and a beautiful wetland conservation zone, it also sits at the heart of the Gold Coast’s latest boom town.

Located just east of the M1 and immediately north of Coomera, Pimpama was once a sleepy rural area dotted with farms and acreage properties.

Thanks to the meteoric rise of neighbouring Coomera and the city’s burgeoning population, Pimpama is firmly on the radars of government ...
