Graham’s back in the saddle for charity
08 June 2018 | by Halcyon
Halcyon Greens home owner and retired firefighter Graham Flack has once again pushed himself to the limit by cycling 750km in his eighth Bike4Burns charity ride.
The huge distance was covered in a week by a group of 46 firefighters, retired firies and emergency services colleagues who took the ‘long, long way’ from the Gold Coast to Brisbane, via Toowoomba.
Their efforts raised more than $30,000 for the Children’s Hospital Foundation to spend on burns research - a cause close to their hearts.
Graham and the other Bike4Burns riders took off in Southport and cycled through Boonah, Killarney, Toowoomba, Blackbutt, Toogoolawah and Mt ...

Lakesiders rally to pickleball
08 June 2018 | by Halcyon
The game with the funny name is catching on at Halcyon Lakeside.
Around 30 home owners have jumped on the community’s purpose-built courts to play pickleball, which blends elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis.
Among the enthusiastic pickleball cohort is Dott Muller who enjoys the new sport so much that she coordinates and coaches pickleball at Lakeside, a role she shares with fellow home owner Christine Dixon.
“It’s something that could take off here and it’s certainly a game that everybody can play,” Dott said.
“The beauty of it is that it’s played a badminton-size court and you don’t have to run as ...

Bonny babes light up Nana Joyce’s life
08 June 2018 | by Halcyon
THERE’S nothing like a comforting cuddle with nana, and the lucky youngsters at Bonny Babes Childcare Centre at Hope Island have their very own ‘Nana Joyce’.
She is Joyce Hartley, a Halcyon Waters home owner who decided to volunteer at the kindy after losing her beloved husband, David, after almost 61 years of marriage.
“When you lose your husband it’s like half of you is gone,” Joyce said.
“This is the best thing I could have done to get me out of myself and to stop feeling sorry for myself.
“It’s given me a reason to get up in the morning.
“It’s a nice feeling; ...

Turning decades of adversity into years of generosity has earned Halcyon Glades home owner Nerida Smith the prestigious Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for community service.

Lymphoedema is the swelling of an arm or leg due to a blockage in the lymphatic system, often caused by lymph node removal or damage due to cancer treatment.
Nerida lived with the incurable condition for 23 years without a diagnosis after sustaining lymph damage in a ...

71 and going strong
08 June 2018 | by Halcyon
Life at Halcyon Glades makes it easy for confessed ‘gym junkie’ Terry Tysoe to satisfy his appetite for action.
At 71, the former boxer, body builder and competition powerlifter, hits the community’s gym three times a week and plays competitive lawn bowls and golf with fellow home owners.
Such is his fitness level that Terry can drop and pump out 50 push-ups and is able to shoulder press the maximum weight on the gym’s station machine.
Happily, he has no arthritis, joint issues or blood pressure problems holding him back.
“There’s nothing that really inhibits me,” he said.
“I’m not on any medication, and not ...
