Blooming surprise for Daffodil Day at Halcyon Landing
As Aussie musician Paul Kelly sings in his iconic song “From little things big things grow”, a group of homeowners has embraced that sentiment, turning a small community raffle into a major fundraising event for cancer.
Inspired by the work the local Cancer Council Queensland do in the community, Halcyon Landing Community Manager Linda Studley and a group of homeowners had the simple idea of holding a cake stall and raffle for Daffodil Day, and ended up raising over $1300.
Halcyon Landing Community Manager Linda Studley said a group of homeowners had approached her with the idea of baking a few cakes to sell on the day.
Linda said before knew it she was given a number of valuable items for a raffle including two meat trays from the Bli Bli Butcher, and the ‘small’ cake stall was a buffet of delicious creations from 20 ladies including, cakes, slices, and other delectables.
“What started out as a cake stall quickly turned into a major fundraising effort, thanks to the generosity of the Halcyon Landing community,” she said.
“Community members donated wine, handmade crocketed blankets, plus a host of other items.
“We put in place a COVID safe plan and by the end of the afternoon, we could not believe our eyes the Landing Community had raised $1350!”
