Autumn's cool change firmly divides people into two camps.
In one camp are those who revel in the chance to get out and get active in the newly brisk air; in the other, those who’d prefer to hibernate indoors until the warmth of spring returns.
As we get older, the benefits of exercise and an active lifestyle become increasingly clear.
Halcyon communities are full of homeowners who have discovered fun ways to keep fit; whether that involves bracing the crisp autumn climate or tailoring a workout away from the seasonal elements.
Rosemary Wright is firmly in favour of exploring the great outdoors. The Halcyon Waters homeowner is an avid bushwalker who takes to trails and tracks every Thursday with a regular hiking group.
“Being immersed in nature in all its variety is so beautiful and such a privilege. It’s a very peaceful thing to do and calming for the mind.” Rosemary said.
Rosemary has walked almost every trail in the Lamington National Park and is particularly proud of hiking the 22km Binna Burra to O’Reilly’s track, a walk that took seven hours to complete.
Halcyon Landing’s Ken Daniels and Lesley Hamilton also extol the enjoyment of exercising with a group of people. The married couple are avid cyclists, broadening their workout of choice into a fun leisure activity.
“Our cycling group is a wonderful bunch of people and we love going away with them,” Ken said. “Most recently, we went to New Zealand and did several rides through Napier.”
Both Ken and Lesley started cycling at school, but the leisure activity eventually gave way to another pursuit.
“Lesley was a champion athlete in her youth, and I took up athletics at 37,” he said.
“We both participated in Masters Athletics in track and field up until I was 75 years old.”
“I hadn’t cycled for a long time and have loved picking it back up again.”
