The iconic and much-loved Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) is the latest organisation to receive a donation from Australia’s most awarded community lifestyle provider, Halcyon.

The donation of $1,750 was made possible through the Friends of Halcyon Referral Program and new homeowner Lindsay McFadyen and his referrer Sue Pie.

“My friend Sue and I love animals and our passionate about protecting our native species, so for us making a donation like this to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary makes a lot of sense,” Lindsay said.

To celebrate Koala Conservation Month, which is held in September, Lindsay joined Halcyon Community General Manager Mark Roy and Halcyon Waters Community Manager Renee Ferguson for a special visit to the Koala enclosure at CWS.

The team received a cuddle from two of the cutest koalas then received a first-hand insight into CWS activities.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary General Manager Michael Kelly said they do not receive government funding.

”Our activities have been severely impacted by the COVID pandemic, so every donation made to our organisation makes a real difference to the Sanctuary and the research and conservation programs we manage,” he said.

CWS is much more than one of the Gold Coast’s leading tourist attractions.

The Currumbin Wildlife Hospital admits over 11,000 sick, injured and orphaned wildlife patients each year including nearly 500 Koalas which is a 16 fold increase in Koala admissions over the past 10 years.

CWS has been working with The University of Queensland for the past 15 years to unlock the secrets of echidna reproduction and has taken the lead in the recovery programs of a number of critically endangered species and works collaboratively on many other crucial conservation projects.

Since July 2020, the Friends of Halcyon Referral Program has directed over $40,000 to over 30 local, regional and national charity and community organisations and has a proud 16-year history of community give back.
