Halcyon Greens, Australia’s largest lifestyle community, scored a rare double win at the prestigious Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Queensland Awards for Excellence, announced at Brisbane City Hall today.

The $325 million over 50s lifestyle community at Pimpama was named the state’s best Master Planned Development as well as the best Seniors Living Development of 2020.

Halcyon’s Joint Managing Directors Paul Melville and Dr Bevan Geissmann were humbled at the achievement and industry recognition for Halcyon Greens’ pioneering over 50s lifestyle community.

“Our vision for Halcyon Greens was to create a modern, country club-style community, the size and scale of which has never been seen in over 50s living,” Dr Geissmann said.

“Driving everything we do is a deep commitment to delivering an outstanding master planned community with quality homes and an abundance of facilities to keep our homeowners active and socially connected.

“Halcyon Greens provides a genuine alternative for downsizers and pre-retirees who want the connection and freedom that a seniors lifestyle community offers.”

The community is located on a 34ha island at Pimpama on the Gold Coast, surrounded by native wetlands and nature reserves and adjacent to Gainsborough Greens championship golf course.

Mr Geissmann said a key criteria of both categories was that the development “must be large enough to generate a sense of community”.

“A strong sense of connection and enthusiastic community management creates the social fabric that binds Halcyon Greens; from a packed schedule of weekly events and activities to generous fundraising initiatives to the formation of more than 40 interest and sporting groups,” he said.

The Seniors Living category judged entrants on their ‘regard for an energy and water-efficient lifestyle’ in addition to design standards and meeting specific needs of retirement-age residents.

Halcyon homes are built using materials such as steel frames, Hebel panels, insulation and 3.5kW solar panels and solar hot water as standard.

Halcyon Greens has six-leaf UDIA EnviroDevelopment certification for its sustainability initiatives across ecosystems, landscaping, waste and recycling, energy, materials and water.

Halcyon Greens is Halcyon’s third over 50s lifestyle community on the Gold Coast and one in a stable of nine in South East Queensland. It is Australia’s fastest-selling lifestyle community, setting regional sales records across multiple releases.

When complete, Halcyon Greens will have 528 homes across 23 styles and eight designs finishes, a recreation club and lodge, cinema, gym and wellness centre, indoor and outdoor pools, floodlit tennis court and championship-sized bowling green and be home to almost 1000 residents.

It is also the home of Australia’s largest purpose-built Pickleball facility with eight floodlit courts.

The annual UDIA Queensland Awards for Excellence honour the highest achievers across all sectors of the development industry with winners eligible to contest the national awards.

Today’s announcement brings the number of state and national UDIA Awards for won by Halcyon to 13 including five Queensland and three national Seniors Living titles.

Since 2006, Halcyon communities have earned more than 20 regional, state and national awards, cementing Halcyon as Australia’s most awarded lifestyle community developer.
