Aussies love Facebook!

17 February 2017 | by Halcyon

A recent study discovered that Australian’s are leading the Facebook way…

And it’s adults, not kids, who are the ‘users’.

How often do you use Facebook? Apparently three out of four of us are using Facebook daily, that’s according to the latest ‘Digital in 2017’ report. It seems that we are logging on more frequently than any other country in the world, with the worldwide average being just 55%.

Australia now has 16 million active users, that is about two-thirds of the population. Usage has gone up by 14% in the last 12 months.

The report, which looked at data from 238 countries, found 75% of Australians check Facebook daily, compared to just 55% globally.

But the most interesting statistic is Generation Y (18 to 34 years) may be regarded as the ‘social media’ generation, it turns out that it’s the parents who are racking up the screen time. Generation X – people aged 35 to 49 – spent an average of six hours and 58 minutes a week on social media, compared with six hours and 19 minutes for Generation Y.

Those of us who are over 50 notch up four hours and nine minutes! When you think about it though it does make sense that we would be checking in on social media given that we are likely to have aging parents and youngish children who we need to keep connected with…

It’s amazing how much has changed in the social media scene over the last few years, the stigma that followed online use historically no longer exists and it’s never been more important to log on to stay in contact with those near and far.

Happy typing!
