Halcyon Wins Master Builders Award For Innovative Steel Frame Home

13 August 2019 | by Halcyon Lakeside

HALCYON has again been recognised as a leader in over 50s lifestyle communities taking home the Best Use of Steel Frame Housing Award at the Master Builders Sunshine Coast Awards over the weekend (August 10th).

The award recognised Halcyon’s innovative, 300sqm Boathouse Design at the $140 million Halcyon Lakeside community in Bli Bli.

The design incorporates pre-fabricated steel framing, a critical component in Halcyon’s trusted patented construction technique.

Halcyon was Australia’s first over 50s seniors lifestyle developer to use the steel frames which are efficient to install and have enabled the delivery of high-quality housing which cannot be achieved with timber.

The steel frames can be segmented into individual sections, creating a relocatable finished product that requires less materials, shorter construction time and a reduced level of upkeep.

Halcyon joint managing director Dr Bevan Geissmann said Halcyon was proud to have won the accolade for its ground-breaking design.

“We’re delighted to win the award and be recognised for our home at Halcyon Lakeside which has proven to have so many benefits during the building process and in the finished product,” Dr Geissmann said.

“The Boathouse provides a superior living solution for seniors who want more, while also providing an engineering solution for a challenging development which requires transitioning a steep site while maintaining accessibility and flat, easy-to-manoeuvre driveways.

“This design is a market innovation and brings modern, easy living to over 50s looking to downsize,” he said.

Dr Geissmann said the Boathouse design offered ample space for a maximised lifestyle.

“The Boathouse design features an open-plan living area, opening to a substantial covered balcony and panoramic views which invites residents to the balcony and activates the streetscape.

“The rear patio provides a private retreat, an escape from the western sun, while maximising breezes, so there is the perfect balance between interaction with neighbours and homeowner’s privacy.

“The lower level offers an expansive triple garage, allowing space for two cars and a boat or the option of creating a workshop which really encourages the lifestyle aspect our communities have become so well known for,” he said.

The Boathouse design, as with all of Halcyon’s homes, is built with a focus on energy efficiency and ageing in place for homeowners.

Through the use of solar systems, environmentally sustainable materials and three-layered insulation, the homes come with an 8-star energy rating.

The implementation of Livable Housing Design’s Silver Level has seen no-step entries to lifts, wider hallways and doors, hobless shower recesses, and ‘grab rail-ready’ walls incorporated in the homes to support ageing in place.

Halcyon develops and manages innovative housing and communities for lifestyle-orientated over 50s. Halcyon’s lifestyle communities are home to over 2,000 people who are enjoying their ‘Halcyon Days’; making new friends, having fun, improving their health and fitness and having the freedom and flexibility to enjoy the best years of their lives. Created in 2004, Halcyon has established seven communities across South East Queensland while building a reputation for superior quality, safe and vibrant lifestyle communities.
