Life begins at Halcyon

Singing and dancing in the park with Tenori

Home owners and guests spent an unforgettable afternoon in the park when the Halcyon Waters community played host to versatile vocal group Tenori in May.

Living up to its name, Celebration Park was filled with late autumn sunshine and the stirring sounds of the dapper trio which features former Ten Tenors, David Kidd, Craig Atkinson and Andrew Pryor.
The fundraiser for DV Connect inspired 170 people to bring their picnic blankets, nibbles and drinks along to the picturesque spot for a thoroughly entertaining afternoon.

They were rewarded with a repertoire of timeless songs ranging from Puccini and Verdi through to Peter Allen and the Bee Gees.

In fact, Tenori’s rendition of Stayin’ Alive saw Halcyon Waters’ line dancers jump up to strut, shuffle and scoot their stuff on any available footpath.

Organiser and line dancer Lynda Peacock, from Halcyon Waters, said the ‘brilliant’ afternoon contributed more than $700 towards the community’s fundraising total of almost $9,200 for DV Connect.

“It’s a win-win situation,” she said.

“You have a great time doing stuff and if, at the end of it, you’ve raised some money to give to charity, then how good is that. It’s the best outcome you could get.”

Regional Community Manager Renee Ferguson said it was wonderful to see home owners from Vision by Halcyon and Halcyon Greens coming along to enjoy the afternoon with the Waters community.
Renee said home owners attending the event had expressed interest in having more shared events.
“They want more inter-community involvement,” she said.

“Some Vision home owners are keen to get involved with the line dancing group at Waters after seeing them dance at the Tenori event.”

Vision by Halcyon newcomers Dennie and John Steffensen were among about 50 home owners to make the short trip over to their sister community for the afternoon.

Dennie said the afternoon was their first social event as home owners, and it didn’t disappoint.
“The atmosphere was wonderful, everyone mixed in and it was very comfortable,” she said.
“We moved here for social interaction and that’s exactly what we got.”
