Real estate spotlight on Bli Bli on the Sunshine Coast

November 23, 2018

For decades Bli Bli was the Sunshine Coast’s salad bowl – a patchwork of family farms growing everything from sugar cane to lettuce and strawberries in the rich, fertile soil surrounding the Maroochy River.

Today, the area’s enduring rural charm and location at the geographic centre of the Coast are driving the growth of a different kind.

Bli Bli is now home to more than 7,000 residents and a spectacular new town centre thanks to its successful blend of thoughtful planning, unmatched connectivity, and lush river catchment.

Residents of this evolving and increasingly popular coastal village have easy access to magnificent beaches to the east, the picturesque hinterland just west, Noosa to the north, and Maroochydore’s evolving new CBD a short drive south.

They are also benefitting from well-considered and modern masterplanning, which has created a vibrant coastal community that offers a safe, social, active and convenient lifestyle with a thriving commercial heart.

These are all reasons why Halcyon chose this emerging residential gem as the destination for its second and third communities on the Sunshine Coast: Halcyon Landing and Halcyon Lakeside.

Enveloped in nature and surrounded by amenities and convenience, our homeowners have everything they need and want at their doorstep.

It’s a quiet yet central location; away from main roads and traffic noise, but close enough that residents can easily join the hustle and bustle of the tourist strip whenever they choose.

No wonder Bli Bli was named the number one Queensland property hotspot by Money Magazine in 2017.

When it comes to shopping, Bli Bli’s offering continues to flourish. Residents have already welcomed the $15 million refurbishment of the town’s River Markets shopping centre, which boasts a full-line supermarket, specialty shops, and eateries.

The River Markets complex sits opposite the spectacular $30 million Bli Bli Village Town Centre, the first stage of which will be delivered early in 2019.

Wrapped in cutting-edge design, Bli Bli Village will offer a suite of medical services, superb retail, restaurants, cafes, offices, a fully licensed tavern, and basement parking for up to 200 vehicles.

Combined, the centres deliver the vibrant retail and commercial heart that Bli Bli’s growing population deserves.

Meanwhile, the Sunshine Coast’s flagship retail and entertainment destination – Sunshine Plaza - is just 10 minutes away at Maroochydore.

A shopping mecca for locals and visitors, Sunshine Plaza boasts five department stores, more than 200 specialty shops, 12 cinemas and an extensive dining precinct.

And over the next two decades, the heart of Maroochydore will become the Sunshine Coast’s 21st Century CBD with work underway to create the $430 million city centre.

Known as The Bright City, this transformational project will blend commerce, innovation, entertainment and city living while creating almost 30,000 jobs.

This new regional CBD is rising on a 53ha greenfield site that was formerly the Horton Park Golf Club which, having sold the land, moved to Bli Bli and changed its name to the Maroochy River Golf Club.

Designed by Graham Marsh, this 18-hole championship course offers its members and guests a challenging links-style layout, with iconic Mt Coolum creating a picturesque backdrop.

And as its name suggests, the club sits on the meandering Maroochy River, which winds through Bli Bli’s lush, green heart – the magnificent Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary.

This 65ha environmental haven features wet and dry eucalypt forests, casuarina woodland, melaleuca forest, salt marsh and mangroves, rainforest, and around 200 bird species.

These protected and pristine wetlands can be explored via a 900m boardwalk linking the Bilai Environmental Education Centre with a landing jetty on the river.

Elsewhere in Bli, Sunshine Coast Council has invested heavily in leisure amenity with walkways, cycle paths, streetscaping, playgrounds and rowing sheds making life here better.

The area is also home to the Bli Bli Watersports Complex, an extensive aquatic playground including Bli Bli Wake Park, Bli Bli Aqua Park and Barra Fishing Park.

On the transport front, Bli Bli is just minutes from the expanding Sunshine Coast Airport, Sunshine Motorway, Bruce Highway, and has regular bus services to Maroochydore.

It’s also reassuring to know that the region is home to what will become one of the largest teaching hospitals in the world, the $2 billion Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH).

The SCUH officially opened with 450 beds in April last year with an expansion of bed numbers due by 2021 and more development planned over the long term.

So, whether it’s pristine wilderness, beautiful beaches, superb shopping, exciting leisure options or world-class medical care, Bli Bli has it all on its doorstep in this green heart of the Sunshine Coast.
